Yle and MTV received multiple awards at the gala that yearly recognises the best Finnish programmes, their creators and performers.
Key winner at the Finnish Golden Venla (Kultainen Venla) ceremony, which awarded the best Finnish TV shows and their creators in 2024, was Conflict (Konflikti), produced by Backmann & Hoderoff for MTV. The director of the show, Aku Louhimies, also won the award for Best Direction (Fiction). The drama series takes place in a small seaside town which is preparing to celebrate Midsummer’s Eve when an unknown enemy arrives and takes the people of the entire area hostage.
Moskito Televisions’ Modern Men (Modernit miehet) which is produced for Yle was awarded Best Comedy Series. Best screenplay for fiction went to Jemina Jokisalo’s Money Shot (Toinen tuleminen) produced by Just Republic for Elisa Viihde. Money Shot is also nominated for the Nordic Series Script Award presented by Nordisk Film & TV Fond at TV Drama Vision in Gothenburg.
Lead Actor of the Year was Riitta Havukainen for her role in crime series Paradise (Paratiisi), produced by ReelMedia for Yle. Best Supporting Actor of the Year was Kati Outinen for the mystery thriller series Utö, produced by Lucy Loves Drama for Nelonen.
The Venla Award for Current Affairs and Documentary Series went to MTV’s series Arman and the 7 Deadly Sins (Arman ja 7 kuolemansyntiä), in which Arman Alizad studies the ethics of today’s world.
The best TV shows and their creators were honoured at the Golden Venla gala on January 17th, 2025, hosted at the Finnish National Opera. The live broadcast was handled by Nelonen.
The winners were selected by members of the Television Academy, consisting of TV industry professionals, based on shortlists prepared by pre-selection juries. Two awards – Performer of the Year and Show of the Year – were decided through a public vote, which drew an exceptional 238,000 votes. This year, both audience awards went to the same programme, Yle’s production Peltsi and Osmo (Peltsi ja Osmo). The show features father Mikko “Peltsi” Peltola and his 12-year old Osmo Peltola. The younger Peltola was crowned Performer of the Year, for capturing the public’s hearts.
