The feature debut of Mammon director Cecilie Mosli posted the third best opening weekend ever for a Norwegian family film.

Released last Friday by Nordisk Film, the live action family film starring pop star Astrid S as Cinderella went straight to the top of the Norwegian film chart with 101,729 admissions (137,973 with previews).

According to Nordisk Film, the three-day opening figures are the third best for a local family film after two animated films in the beloved Louis & Luca (Flåklypa) series.

”This is a fantastic opening. We know that Christmas films live a long time in the cinemas and can achieve 7-8 times the opening weekend in total,” said Christin Berg, director of Nordisk Film Cinemas, who expects final numbers to pass 700,000.

”We wanted to make a film that works for everyone, and it’s a dream to see that the adventure movie has scored across all genders and generations,” said producer Frederick P N. Howard of Storm Films.

The modern take of Václav Vorlícek’s 1973 movie - programmed on NRK every Christmas Eve since the 1990s - has received rave reviews in the Norwegian press, with many critics praising in particular the screen debut of Norwegian internationally acclaimed pop singer Astrid S (for Smeplass) and awe-inspiring Arctic landscape.

The film produced by Storm Films with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond is expected to open in the rest of Scandinavia early 2022. Sola Media handles sales.

So far 633,648 Norwegians have flocked to the cinemas to watch the latest James Bond movie, released locally by SF Norge. Meanwhile The Worst Person in the World was number 5 in its fifth week. Total admissions have passed 180,000.
