Three TV series, three films and one documentary receive support

In its November round of support, Nordisk Film & TV Fond has allocated NOK 8.8 million in production support to seven projects including NOK 2.3m to the animated film Fleak.

  • Raspberry Hill
    Format: 3x30’

    Logline: Stina, 12, suffers from lung disease. In hope of a cure, she is sent to a sanatorium on an island. One night, a mysterious boy shows up and warns her of danger. Someone is after poor children’s hearts. Stina is the only one who can stop the evilness.

    Raspberry Hill is a horror series for children aged 10–12. It is based on Finnish/Swedish author Eva Frantz’s successful 2018 youth novel. The series is due to premiere in 2023.

    Logline: The drama comedy centres on Anders (43) who lives in a villa with his wife and daughter. He has a perfectly okay job at a motivational speaker agency, a rich social life and plays paddle tennis. Everything should be fine. But Anders feels trapped in his own reality. Post-production just started, after a 40-day shoot. The premiere is set for spring 2022.

    The series co-produced by Estonia’s Allfilm, has received support from the Swedish Film Institute and the Estonian Film Institute.
    Logline: The crime thriller centres on the topic of the death penalty.
    When a man presumed dead is arrested on a ferry between Sweden and Finland, detectives Mariana Hermansson and Ewert Grens are led into a mysterious and increasingly dark series of events. The case soon reveals a personal connection not only to Hermansson herself, but to a Death Row prisoner in the US and a grieving parent consumed by the quest for revenge.

    Cell 8 is the second Roslund & Hellström best-selling novel (after Box 21) adapted for television by Miso Film for Viaplay. Filming is due to wrap December 15. The premiere on Viaplay is set for 2022.

  • Fleak

    The Finnish film co-produced by Denmark’s Parka Pictures, Poland’s Animoon and France’s Godo Films was bestowed the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award in 2020.
    Logline: In the CG fantasy adventure animated film, Lauri, 11, has lost his ability to walk in an accident when Fleak, a furry creature from another dimension, appears. He takes Lauri on a fantasy adventure where he learns to walk again but must also confront a huge monster created by his own shadow. The premiere is set for 2023.
  • Four Little Adults (Neljä pientä Aikuista)
    Grant: NOK 900,000
    Recipient: Tuffi Films, Finland

    Writer/Director: Selma Vilhunen
    Domestic distribution: Aurora Studios
    Logline: Four Little Adults is a touching and humane dive into the deep end of love, where middle-aged people have to go through serious growing pains. Juulia discovers that her beloved husband is having an affair with another woman. To save her marriage, she decides that they should begin to live in polyamory.

    The film is co-produced by Sweden’s Hobab, France’s Manny Films with co-financing from Yle, SVT, Aurora Studios, support from the Finnish Film Foundation and the Swedish Film Institute. Filming is underway, with a premiere set for 2023.
  • Northern Comfort
    Grant: NOK 2 million
    Recipient: Netop Films, Iceland

    Writer/Director: Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson
    Domestic distribution: Sena
    The film is co-produced by Germany’s One Two Films and the UK’s Good Chaos, with co-financing from the Icelandic Film Centre, The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, ZDF/ARTE, Film 4, Scanbox, Welt Kino and the MEDIA Programme’s Creative Europe.
    Logline: Sarah, a career woman in her forties, suffers from an uncontrollable fear of flying. To save her newly-established relationship, she must overcome her phobia and learn to let go. Principal photography is due to start in February 2022.

Documentaries

  • Tsumu
    Grant: NOK 300,000
    Recipient: Playground Production, Denmark

    Domestic distribution: DR
    Logline: Tsumu (where Do You Go with your Dreams?) is a youth film set in East Greenland’s biggest city Tasiilaq. It’s about being young, about friendship and the right to dream of a better future. Over a period of two years, Lars and his best friends Eino and Thomas have been filming their lives. Now they are 19 and are now facing a dilemma: should they stay or should they go?

    The documentary co-produced by Sweden’s Momento Film, has received co-financing from DR in Denmark, VGTV in Norway, support from the Danish Film Institute and the Swedish Film Institute.

  • NOK 300,000 to SF Norway for the release of the Swedish film A Christmas Tale.
  • NOK 250,000 to SF Norway for the release in Norway of the Swedish film The Emigrants.
  • NOK 100,000 to Fidalgo, Norway for the release of the Finnish film The Blind Man Who Didn’t Want to See Titanic.
  • NOK 80,000 to Myndform, Iceland for the dubbing of the Danish film All I Want for Christmas.

Industry Initiatives Support

  • NOK 90,000 to Brancheklubben for Film og Mediekomponister, Denmark for Nordic Film Music Days 2022.
