The Commune, Land of Mine and Walk with Me are the three films shortlisted as Danish entries for the 89th Oscars in the Foreign Language category.

The titles were announced yesterday by the Danish Oscar committee headed by chairman and Danish Film Institute CEO Henrik Bo Nielsen.

Thomas Vinterberg who was nominated in 2014 with his drama The Hunt, is shortlisted with the period film The Commune for which Trine Dyrholm won a Silver Bear in Berlin. The drama produced by Zentropa in collaboration with Toolbox Film will have its North American premiere in Toronto.

Land of Mine by Martin Zandvliet has collected more than 18 awards since its Toronto 2015 world premiere where it was snapped by Sony Picture Classics. The drama set in the aftermath of WW2 is produced by Nordisk Film Production with Germany’s Amusement Park Films.

Walk with Me
by Lisa Ohlin stars Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (A Royal Affair) as a former Afghan soldier, recovering from his injuries in a rehabilitation centre, who falls in love with a ballerina (Cecilie Lassen). The film is produced by Asta Film.

The Commune and Walk with Me are sold internationally by TrustNordisk while K 5 International handles Land of Mine. The Danish Oscar committee will announce the final Danish candidate on September 19.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science will reveal on January 24 the final five contenders for Best Foreign Language Film and the Academy awards ceremony will be held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on February 26, 2017.
