Scandinavian major Nordisk Film has three major Nordic crime series based on best-selling novels in the works. Liza Marklund's Nobel's Last Will the first of six films produced by Yellow Bird just starting filming. Camilla Läckberg's The Fjällbacka Murders produced by Tre Vänner will start rolling in August, and Jussi Adler Olsen's Department Q series produced by Zentropa is in early stages of development.

The role title of crime reporter Annika Bengtzon in Liza Marklund's Nobel's Last Will is played by Malin Crepin. Other investigative journalists are played by Björn Kjellman, Kajsa Ernst, Leif Andrée, Erik Johansson, Richard Ulfsäter and Felix Engström. Danmark's experienced Peter Flinth is directing. Shooting will be split between Stockholm, northern Sweden and Spain. The other five films based on Annika Bengtzon character will also be shot in 2011. The series is produced by Yellow Bird in co-production with TV4 Sweden, ARD in Germany and Nordisk Film.

Another strong woman, Erica Falck is the central character of The Fjällbacka Murders, an original fictional series based on Swedish author Camilla Läckberg's universe. Helen Ahlsson is producing the 10 TV episodes and two feature films for Tre Vänner, in co-production with Nordisk Film, SVT, and Film i Väst. Filming will start on August 15, 2011, with Marcus Olsson directing the first two TV films.

Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen has chosen male detective Carl Mørck as the head of the Department Q unit, responsible for cracking mysterious unresolved cases. The first novel of the series‘The Woman in the Cage', was published in 2007 in Denmark and rights were then sold to 21 countries. Zentropa acquired film rights to the series when the second book, ‘The Pheasant Killers' was published in 2008. The Danish production powerhouse will produce with Nordisk Film, Germany's Network Movie and ZDF.
