The Worst Person in the World leads Norwegian Amanda film nominations

Joachim Trier’s romantic drama produced by Oslo Pictures scoops 11 nominations, followed by Eskil Vogt’s supernatural drama The Innocents, running in 10 categories.

Both films that had their world premiere at Cannes 2021, are vying for Best Norwegian Film of the Year alongside John Andreas Andersen’s disaster movie The North Sea.

The three films are also competing for Best Director, Best Visual effects, Sound Design and Best Actress, a category where The Worst Person in the World’s Renate Reinsve is facing Kristine Kujath Thorp for The North Sea and three young actresses from The Innocents: Rakel Lenora Fløttum, Alva Brynsmo Ramstad and Mina Yasmin Bremseth Asheim.
Meanwhile Eskil Vogt is nominated for Best Screenwriter both for The Innocents and The Worst Person in the World (co-written with Trier).

Elsewhere Three Wishes for Cinderella by Cecilie Mosli (second grossing film of 2021 in Norway after Bond’s No Time to Die) scoops four Amanda nominations including Best Children’s Film, a category including as well Clue-The Maltese Mystery by Thale Persen.

Documentaries competing for an Amanda take in the raw and intimate film Young and Afraid by Peter Aaberg and Sverre Kvamme, Loss & Love by Ragnhild Nøst Bergem, dealing with dementia, and The Last Norwegian Cowboy by Frode Fimland.

Bent Hamer’s The Middle Man gets four nominations for Best Actor (Pål Sverre Hagen), Cinematography (John Christian Rosenlund), Production Design (Diana Magnus) and Costume (Amanda Lee Street).

The Danish multi-awarded animated doc Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen is running for Best Foreign Language Film, against Dune by Denis Villeneuve and Everything, Everywhere, All at Once by Dan Kwan & Daniel Sceinert.

The Worst Person in the World leads Norwegian Amanda film nominations

A total of 22 Amanda film awards will be handed out on Saturday August 20 during the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund. Films must have been released in Norwegian cinemas between July 1st 2021 and June 30, 2022 to be eligible.

The gala evening hosted by actor Odd Magnus Williamson will be transmitted live on NRK.
