The Amanda Awards ceremony held last Saturday in Haugesund, Norway and transmitted live on TV2 Norway, was a triumphal night for first time director Stian Kristiansen (The Man Who Loved Yngve - photo) who racked Best Norwegian Film, Best Children and Youth Film, Best Director and Best Editor (Vidar Flataukan).

The Man Who Loved Yngve which was shot in the nearby town of Stavanger, with support from the region's Filmkraft Rogaland, was produced by Yngve Sætter (Motlys Film) with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

Nils Gaup's epic film The Kautokeino Rebellion, this year's most successful Norwegian film, was logically given the ‘Folkets Amanda' (People's Amanda), one of five awards with Best Actress (for the Finnish Anni-Kristiina Jusso), Photography, Set Decoration and Music.

Although the Norwegian critics' favourite film O'Horten by Bent Hamer, turned only two of its seven nominations into awards, veteran actor Espen Skjønberg -winner of Best Supporting Actor- received probably the warmest and longest applause from the audience.

Writers Thomas Moldestad and Stig Rajendram Eliassen who successfully adapted Gunnar Staalesen's best-selling novel ‘Fallen Angels' into the fourth Varg Veum film, were awarded for their mutual efforts, as well the film's leading actor Trond Espen Seim.

The documentary film Big John (Blod & ære) by Håvard Bustnes, added an Amanda to its recent Best Documentary Award won at Grimstad Short Film Festival.
