The third season of the internationally acclaimed Danish crime series Forbrydelsen (The Killing) received a NOK 1.4 million production grant from Nordisk Film & TV Fond in its November round of support. Other projects supported include the latest Bård Breien and Águst Gudmundson feature films.
The 10x60' Killing 3 is the closing part of the crime investigation led by detective Sarah Lund (Sofie Gråbøl). Writer Søren Sveistrup who has managed to keep millions of international viewers glued to their TV sets for the first 30 episodes has used for the final series the backdrop of the financial crisis, portraying characters driven by greed. Concept director Mikkel Serup has several new cast members under his helm such as Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Anders W. Berthelsen. The series produced by Piv Bernth is scheduled to be delivered in September 2012.
Another Danish TV series received NOK400,000 in production support: the 3D animated Christmas special Piggy directed by Rickard Stampe Söderström. The project is the long version of Christmas Piggy, the director's graduation short film from the Danish Film School which screened at Nordic Talents 2010. Set in 1932, during a cold December night, it's the story of a little piglet who tries to escape his destiny as a Christmas meal. Lise Ann Mangino is producing for A Film Production.
The Finnish feature film Things We Do For Love produced by Auli Mantila for Aamu Filmcompany (Painting Sellers) was awarded NOK1.150.000 in production support. The relationship comedy drama is directed by Matti Ijäs.
The documentary film No Burqas Behind Bars shot inside an Afghan women‘s prison by the established Swedish/Iranian filmmaker Nima Sarvestani was awarded NOK400,000 in production support. The project was successfully pitched at the last IDFA Forum central pitch last month. Maryam Ebrahimi is producing for Sweden's Nima Film.
Development support worth NOK250,000 was awarded to War Below Zero (Krig under frysepunktet) by the multi-awarded Icelandic director Águst Gudmundson (The Seagull's Laughter). The Danish film produced by Tivi Magnusson for M&M Production and is based on a script by Susanne Bier's writing collaborator Anders Thomas Jensen. The drama focuses on two meteorologists, a Dane and a German, who are posted to Greenland during WWII. As the two enemies look to gain advantage over one another, the harsh environment forces them to work together to survive.
Another NOK130,000 development support was awarded to the Norwegian project Mongo Noir, Bard Breien's second feature film after the acclaimed debut The Art of Negative Thinking. Asle Vatn is producing for Friland Film.
