Banijay Rights handles global sales on the 6x44’ series, currently filming in Malmö and Ystad.
Headlining Sofia Helin (The Bridge, Lust, Atlantic Crossing) and Hedda Stiernstedt (The Restaurant, Beforeigners), the Swedish series Fallen (Sanningen) is created and written by Camilla Ahlgren (The Bridge, Quicksand, Anxious People) alongside co-writers Martin Asphaug (Gåsmamman, The Sandhamn Murders) and Alex Haridi (Love & Anarchy, Blue Eyes). Linnéa Roxeheim (Portkod) serves as concept director, and Olof Spaak as episodic director.
According to the official statement, the emotional crime drama deals with “sisterhood, parenthood, guilt, grief and how to move on after a trauma”.
Sofia Helin plays Iris Broman, the new head of the Kalla Fall, a group solving cold cases in Malmö. Due to a tragedy, she leaves Stockholm for the small southern town of Ystad, and moves in with her half-sister Kattis’ (Hedda Stiernstedt). There, a cold case becomes topical again and everything is turned upside down, intertwining the lives of several people.
“I always want to work with people who are talented and interesting, as with screenwriter Camilla Ahlgren,” said Helin. “It’s brilliant to be reunited in this project, to deepen the creative process and challenge one another in new ways. I discovered Linnéa Roxeheim a few years ago, when I watched the series Portkod with my daughter. I’m really interested in working with a director with a talent for fine-tuning human relationships in a series within this genre. The story of Fallen raises the question of how a person moves on after a trauma.”
The series is produced by Filmlance International’s Anna Wallmark, in co-production with C More/TV4, Film i Skåne, in collaboration with ZDF. C More/TV4’s Lisa Dahlberg serves as executive producer. The premiere on the Nordic streamer C More is set for 2023.
Headed by Hanne Palmquist, Banijay Group’s Swedish label Filmlance International is currently working on another major TV show for Viaplay: the family series Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, written by Hans Rosenfeldt from Astrid Lindgren’s celebrated children’s book.
