After successfully tapping into Finland with Syrror, the production company is remaking for Sweden the Norwegian comedy series Next Summer.
The Swedish version of Next Summer is produced by Bob Film’s Jan Blomgren for Kanal5/Discovery.
Peter Magnusson acts as show runner and plays the title role as a man who shares a house with his wife and in-laws at a summer house in Stockholm’s archipelago. Other actors include Christine Meltzer, Jonas Karlsson, Anki Lidén and Krister Henrikssen.
The original Norwegian show Neste Sommer (10x23’) produced by Feelgood Scene Film is one of TVNorge/Discovery’s most popular local TV dramas and won the 2016 Gullruten for Best Comedy series. The Swedish remake is in the editing stage and will premiere on Kanal5/Discovery in 2017.
Million viewers for Syrror
Meanwhile Bob Film is enjoying the current success on TV4 of the series Syrror, remake of the Finnish ready-made hospital series Nurses. The first of 20 episodes (split into two seasons of 10) was shown on TV4 on October 19 and collected more than one million viewers and a share of 32.6%. The show was particularly strong within the adult female audience.
Norwegians as well will soon watch the four Swedish nurses played by Cecilie Sparre, Marall Nasiri, Janette Holmgren and Tanja Lorentzon, as TV2 will launch the series on its November 8 prime time slot. “The hospital drama is a genre that we in Norway are very keen on”, said Nina Lorgen Flemmen head of International programming at TV2.
For Blomgren, the buying and adaptation of two Scandi shows in a row is ‘just a coincidence’. “Ten years ago, no one would have thought about adapting a Finnish or a Norwegian show for the Swedish market", he says. "Now it’s a new trend and Syrror came at the same time as other Scandi remakes: Gåsmamman and Black Widows. It’s exciting for us because it opens up to bigger Scandinavian collaborations, where we can bring Finnish or Norwegian talents to Sweden for example." Blomgren adds that remakes also work the other way around as Bob Film’s original show Mäklarna was adapted for Norway (Meglerne) and optioned for the US, along with TV4’s hit Ack Värmland (Small Town Love).
Full 2016-2017 line up
Fuelled by his two-year partnership with Mikael Hernström’s youth-oriented production company Art89, Blomgren has several film and TV projects in various stages of production and ready for release.
