The critically acclaimed crime drama Blackwater (Händelser vid vatten), loosely based on Kerstin Ekman’s eponymous best-selling novel, is running for best drama series, with four of its stellar cast members - Rolf Lassgård and Asta Kamma August, vying for best actor/best actress, and Liv Mjönes and Magnus Krepper sharing a supporting role nomination.
The atmospheric series produced by Apple Tree Productions won a best series award from Series Mania’s International Panorama section in March.
SVT is heading the annual Swedish TV awards with a total of 36 nominations across the 21 Kristallen categories (including the audience top programme), followed by the commercial broadcaster TV4 with 23 nods, the streamers Viaplay (20), Netflix (8) and Discovery +(7).
Among the production companies that pulled in the most nominations are B-Reel Films with six Kristallen nods for the Viaplay hit series Thunder in My Heart, SVT’s Detective #24, and documentary Historja Stitches for Sapmi.
As usual, FLX scored in the comedy/humour categories, with three (out of five) series in the running: Netflix’s Love & Anarchy, Viaplay’s The Meaning of Life and C More/TV4’s Adult Behaviour. The company is also represented in the youth drama genre with Live Life produced for Viaplay.
Other strong entries include the crime drama Riding in Darkness produced by Jarowskij for C More/TV4, running for best series, best actor (Jonas Karlsson) and actress (Saga Samuelsson).
Netflix’s Yellow Bird UK-produced The Playlist gets three nods for best series and actors Christian Hillborg and Edvin Endre-aka Spotify co-founders, while Snabba Cash 2 and Young Royals 2 earn two nods each.
A total of 23 statuettes will be handed out at the Kristallen awards ceremony to be held in Stockholm on August 28, and transmitted on SVT Play and SVT1 at 20.00.
