Published in 2011, the book is a web of tales building an epic saga of good versus evil in a world inhabited by the supernatural. Mårling will write the script and co-direct with his long-time partner Stein. The deal was brokered by Judith Toth - former NonStop Sales executive and now head of film rights and literary agent at Bonnier Group Agency-and Svensk Filmindustri producer Karl Fredrik Ulfung. So far, foreign rights to the book have been sold to Finland and negotiations with several other territories are under way.
"Collected Swedish Cults has everything I love, but also demand as a film's must-have ingredients, surprising stories with gripping and engaging characters, its own credible universe and a tone of its own," said Mårlind "My ambition with the script is, as always, trying to set a new standard, visually but also storytelling wise".
"Måns and I have astonishingly similar taste and a fascination for morbid stories," added Fager. "I've had several meetings already with Svensk Filmindustri and Måns, and am told there is a first draft very soon. "The Swedish theatrical release via SF is scheduled for the end of 2013. Mårlind told the Swedish press agency TT Spektra that he has Alexander Skarsgård and Max von Sydow in mind for some of the roles.
