Academy-award winning director Susanne Bier (pictured) has cast the Danish actor and international star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in her upcoming Danish film A Second Chance. The drama scripted by the director’s long-time collaborator Anders Thomas Jensen is supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Coster-Waldau has been alternating roles in US and Scandinavian films for the last decade. His recent credits include Oblivion, HBO’s series Game of Thrones, the Norwegian films Headhunters by Morten Tyldum and A Thousand Times Good Night by Erik Poppe, currently on Norwegian screens. His last major role in a Danish film was in Jannik Johannes’ Stealing Rembrandt (2003).
Bier and Thomas Jensen’s fruitful collaboration started in 2002 with Open Hearts and continued with Brothers, After the Wedding, the Oscar-winning In a Better World and the comedy All You Need is Love. A Second Chance is a drama about how easily people lose their grasp on justice when faced with the unthinkable. The rest of the cast will be announced shortly.
The film is produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Zentropa Entertainments14 in co-production with Zentropa International Sweden, Film i Väst, support from the Danish Film Institute, Film Fyn, the Swedish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Eurimages, in cooperation with DR and SVT. The Danish premiere is set for the winter 2014. Nordisk Film handles Scandinavian distribution.
TrustNordisk will introduce the project for pre-sales at the upcoming American Film Market in Los Angeles.
