Nyrén who took up his new role November 1st, is in charge of boosting the local adaptations of BBC Studios' scripted and unscripted formats and original content in Sweden.

From his Stockholm outpost, he will report to Daniel Svarts, regional managing director for BBC Studios Nordic Productions, and work closely with Mikael Hansson, previously head of programmes, just promoted to the role of head of scripted for BBC’s Nordic production subsidiary.

Nyrén’s appointment follows the UK media group’s recent acquisition of the Scandinavian production company STV, specialised in factual entertainment formats.

The Swedish executive’s career in Swedish television spans over three decades. He worked 14 years for SVT, most recently as commissioning editor for entertainment, lifestyle, drama and film, serving as executive producer of the cult series The Bridge and Ali Abbasi’s multi-awarded film Border. He worked earlier for Jarowskij as executive producer and partner and before that, for TV4 when the commercial channel first launched in Sweden.

BBC Studios Nordic Productions oversees the production of local adaptations of BBC Studios’ unscripted and scripted formats, in addition to developing original IP for a local and global audience.

As part of its strategy to expand its international footprint, BBC Group’s commercial arm BBC Studios has also appointed Amsterdam-based Hale Mouritz to the newly created job of director of programming, Western Europe for services in Benelux and the Nordics, while Andrea Raman is now in charge of business development in the Nordics, MENA and Turkey from her London office.
