Jesper Christensen, Bodil Jørgensen, Mads Reuther are back for the second film by Anders Refn about the Skov family saga during WW2.

Co-written again by seasoned director Refn and writer Flemming Quist Møller, Into the Darkness-The Final Reckoning (De forbandede år 2-opgøret) is set to start filming May 17 for production house Space Rocket Nation and distribution partner Scanbox Entertainment.

In the follow-up to the 2020 film, set between spring 1943 and summer 1945, Aksel Skov (Mads Reuther) has become a hardcore resistance fighter and left his family. As the Danish coalition government collapses, the patriarch Karl (Jesper Christensen) is suddenly without political support and is forced to take drastic decisions to protect his family assets, which puts the relationship with his wife Eva (Bodil Jørgensen) under harsher pressure as she has always had difficulty with Karl’s collaboration with the Germans. The growing opposition to the occupying forces, and increased brutality of the Germans have fatal consequences for the family.

Other actors reprising their roles include Gustav Dyekjær Giese (Riders of Justice), Sara Viktoria Bjerregaard Christensen, (The Seaside Hotel), Lue Dittmann Støvelbæk (The Seaside Hotel, Ride Upon the Storm), and Sylvester Byder (Deliver Us, Erna at War).

The period drama is produced by Lene Børglum and Refn for Space Rocket Nation and Vulkan Film, with support from the Danish Film Institute, TV2 Denmark, Film Fyn and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The Danish theatrical release is set for March 31, 2022.

The first film Into the Darkness was the fourth biggest hit in Danish cinemas last year, with 370,100 admissions from its January 2020 release until the pandemic hit in March. US distributor Samuel Goldwyn plans to release it in May.
