Esben Smed, Sofie Thorp, Joachim Fjelstrup are some of the key cast lined-up for the romantic comedy, produced by Nordisk Film Production.

Based on a script by seasoned writer Kim Fupz Aakeson (In Order of Disappearance, Welcome to Utmark), Lykkelige Omstændigheder (lit’ Happy Circumstances) is described as ”a warm and funny romantic comedy about the good life we all long for, a modern tale of finding its rightful place in life and realising that the dream sometimes lies in a completely different place than we think.”

The central characters are the opposite siblings Katrine (Sofie Torp, seen in Daniel), and Karoline (Roberta Reichhardt from Sjit Happens) The latter is impulsive, chaotic, and lives with the unemployed DJ Ronny (Joachim Fjelstrup from Ride Upon the Storm), unlike her sister who lives with the successful builder Markus (Esben Smed of Follow the Money, A Fortunate Man) and has it all…except children.

When Karoline accidentally gets pregnant, Katrine devises a plan that could solve everyone's problems: Katrine will pay her sister's debts and a little more, in exchange of her future baby. But nothing goes as planned.

Rounding out the cast are Martin Høgsted, Kristian Halken, Søren Malling and Christiane Gjellerup Koch.

Berthelsen is one of Denmark’s greatest acting talents of the past 25 years. He has appeared in the films Italian for Beginners, Superclásico, We Shall Overcome, Daniel, the TV series The Killing and DNA.

The film is being produced in close collaboration with Kolding Municipality on the east coast of Jutland, Berthelsen’s native area. The actor-turned director said: “After being a co-director of the film Daniel [with Niels Arden Oplev], I have been looking for the right project to make my debut without a safety net. When I read Kim Fupz's script for the film, I had no doubt that this was the perfect project for me. Kim Fupz is an amazing humorist and a modern, captivating storyteller, and he has written a really funny and touching script with a series of lively on-screen characters that feel real. We have just started filming in my own hometown and it is a great experience. I'm really looking forward to the audience watching the finished film this spring,” he said.

Thomas Heinesen is producing for Nordisk Film Production, with support from Kolding Municipality, the Danish Film Institute, YouSee and Clausen Group.

The domestic theatrical release via Nordisk Film is planned for April 7, 2022.
