Sofie Gråbøl, Lene Maria Christensen, Anders W. Berthelsen, Søren Malling and Peter Gantzler co-star in the Danish drama currently filming for Nordisk Film.

Seasoned director Niels Arden Oplev (Daniel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Mr Robot) has started filming in Jutland the film Rose, which he describes as ‘his most personal film’ since We Shall Overcome (2006).

Based on his own original script, Rose is set over week in the fall 1997. A tourist bus departs from Aalborg heading for Paris. In the bus, Inger, her sister Ellen and brother-in-law Vagn sit with a group of happy Northern Jutlanders, unaware of what next week will bring. Among the travellers are also the upright deputy school inspector Skelbæk and his family. The bus, led by tour guide Ole, has hardly reached the Jutland motorway before Inger involves the rest of the company in her mental illness, which puts a damper on everyone. Upon arrival in Paris, it becomes clear that Inger has a hidden agenda.

Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing, Fortitude) and Lene Maria Christensen (Deliver Us, The Legacy) play the two sisters Inger and Ellen. Other cast members are Anders W. Berthelsen (Daniel), Søren Malling (The Investigation), Peter Gantzler (Rita), Christiane G. Koch (Daniel) Karen-Lise Mynster (When the Dust Settles) and Luca Ben Coker (Equinox).

Niels Arden Oplev said: “Rose is the story of the two sisters Inger and Ellen, how their relationship is challenged on a bus trip to Paris, which develops in both a touching and involuntarily comic and dramatic directions. It is a film about caring for and loving each other despite our differences.”

The film is produced by Thomas Heinesen for Nordisk Film Production, with support from the Danish Film Institute, the West Danish Film Fund, Eurimages and Creative Europe Media. The Danish premiere is set for late summer 2021.
