On the eve of the television market MIPCOM in Cannes, sales agent LevelK has announced that Sony has just acquired remake rights for the Danish cult series Park Road (Lærkevej) produced by Cosmo Film for TV2 Danmark with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

Emmy award-winning writing duo Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green (The Sopranos) will adapt Sony’s project to be produced with eOne and broadcast in the US by NBC. “We are thrilled and honoured by this opportunity, especially with Robin and Mitch attached whom we find extremely talented. This is confirming the international potential of Danish TV drama,” said Cosmo Film’s co-managing director Rasmus Thorsen.

Written by Mette Heeno and produced by Mie Andreasen, Thorsen and Tomas Hostrup-Larsen, Park Road (Laerkevej) features the siblings Katrine, Sune and Mathilde who flee the big city and seek refuge in the small community of Park Road where nothing is the way it seems.

The series was a hit when it first aired on TV2 and a feature version was released in Danish cinemas in 2012. Previous Scandinavian series that have been sold for US remakes include The Killing, The Bridge, Rita, Those Who Kill and Hellfjord
