The Danish comedy co-written by debut director Christian Arhoff with Ulaa Salim will be released domestically by Nordisk Film in 2023.
Viktor vs the World (Viktor mod verden) is the feature length version of Arhoff’s graduation film from the National Film School of Denmark Viktor on the Moon. The short film won Best Comedy at Palm Springs Short Film Fest 2020 and travelled extensively at world festivals.
The feature film co-written by Arhoff with Ulaa Salim (Sons of Denmark), is a warm comedy about a young man who meets the world, life and love for the first time. It’s a coming of age movie about identity, responsibility, freedom and the longing to belong to someone.
The main character Viktor Leth (30) has lived all his life with his mother, who is afraid of everything. He is disconnected with reality, living his life through old Danish films.
But when the mother dies, Viktor is left to fend for himself. He finds out that his father Charlie, is still alive, and he decides to visit him in Copenhagen. Viktor thinks his father is a jazz musician, but Charlie turns out to be an insurer in an ailing insurance company.
Viktor has a huge talent for insurance due to his mother's great fears, and Charlie tries to use his son to save the company. At the same time, Viktor meets Josefine, an unfortunate employee whose life has been bit of a mishap. He has to choose between playing the role that his father wants him to, or setting free.
Toplining the cast are Nicolai Jørgensen (The Shift) as Viktor, Nicolas Bro (Riders of Justice) as his father, and newcomer Anna Bruus Christensen as Josefine. Other cast members include Rosalinde Mynster Bodil Jørgensen, Kurt Ravn, Thomas W. Gabrielsson and Mikael Berthelsen.
The film is produced by Hyæne Film co-founder Daniel Mühlendorph and Robin Hounisen, with support from the Danish Film Institute’s New Danish Screen. The Danish premiere via Nordisk Film is set for May 4 May, 2023
Meanwhile Hyæne Film co-founder Ulaa Salim is currently working on his biggest feature film to date-the sci-fi love story Eternal backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The film starring Simon Sears, Nanna Øland Fabricius, Magnus Krepper, Halldóra Geirhardsdóttir, and Zaki Youssef is due to open in August 2023.
