The German sales company associated to numerous Nordic kids and family films received the award yesterday at Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux.
Solveig Langeland’s company has a large catalogue of high-quality children’s films and family entertainment with a strong focus on animation films for the silver screen.
Recent films on the company’s slate include Rasmus A. Sivertsen’s Louis & Luca Mission to the Moon, third biggest Norwegian film of 2018 with more than 422,000 admissions, Christian Lo’s Los Bando and Eva Dahl’s Trio-The Hunt for the Holy Shrine.
Sixty-six animation feature projects were selected for the 21st Cartoon Movie (March 5-7), including six from Scandinavia.
Denmark brought the largest slate, spearheaded by Anders Matthesen and Thorbjørn Christoffersen’s mega hit Chequered Ninja, preview screened in Bordeaux. The film produced by A Film with Pop Up and Sudoku has passed 900,000 admissions at home, making it the biggest Danish hit since 1985.
Other Danish projects pitched were Raggie by Karsten Kiilerich & Meelis Arulepp (A Film Estonia/ A Film Denmark) currently in production, Henrietta the Moovie by Karsten Kiilerich, Cherifa Bakhti & Dieter Riepenhausen, in development (WunderWerk Germany/A Film Denmark/Fabrique d’Images Luxembourg) and Yap Yap by Jens Møller (Parkka Pictures Denmark, Grid Animation Belgium), in concept stage.
Iceland was repped by Caoz /Glassriver’s The 14th Santa, in development, and Norway by Den Siste Skilling’s concept Valemon-The Polar Bear King, to be directed by Hans JørgenSandnes & Maja Lunde.
Looking at trends in animation, 67% of the projects selected at Cartoon Movie were family comedies and 20% were aimed at young adults/adults, with topics dealing with politics and history.
