With nearly 14,000 tickets sold, Margret Olin’s majestic existential journey, had the best opening for a nature documentary since March of the Penguins in 2006.
Launched September 1st by Norsk Filmdistribusjon, Songs of Earth (Fedrelandet) went straight to the 4th spot at the local Top 10 behind the unbeatable Barbie, Oppenheimer and Sony Pictures’ new release The Equalizer 3.
Olin’s breath-taking hymn to nature and love letter to her father received rave reviews across the board and attracted 13,830 Norwegian cinemagoers, making it her second best opening after Doing Good
in 2016, which ended up with a record 167,000 admissions.
Produced by Olin’s Speranza Company and executive produced by Wim Wenders and Liv Ullmann, Songs of Earth world premiered at CPH:DOX and opened the Krakow Film Festival in May. It will next have its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and will compete at Nordisk Panorama for best Nordic documentary film.
