An Affair is directed by Norwegian director Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken (Cave).
Teen heartthrob Sandvik Moe who rose to fame with his role as Isak in NRK’s cult series Skam, has climbed a new step in his career by signing with FilmBros and Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken for his silver screen debut. The film, which is in mid-shooting, tells of an affair between a 44 year-old teacher and her student. Dalhsbakken said: “It's an erotic thriller about a newly appointed teacher who finds herself being followed, before discovering that one of her own students is obsessed with her.”
Andrea Bræin Hovig, Amanda nominated for I Belong, plays the teacher. Dahlsbakken said he is proud to have hired ‘two of the greatest acting talents in Norway’. “The chemistry between them is truly astonishing, and the reason I chose to make the film in the end,’ he added.
The strong Scandinavian cast also includes international Emmy-award winner Anneke von der Lippe (Eyewitness), Agnes Kittelsen (Happy Happy), Ingjerd Egeberg (Mammon) and Danish actor Carsten Bjørnlund (The Legacy).
The film will be delivered in May 2018, with the theatrical release set for the fall 2018. Dahlsbakken said that as ‘the project is quite sought-after, domestic and international distribution are still in final negotiations’.
Sandvik Moe was in Haugesund-together with Skam co-star Iman Meskini- to present the Nordic Council Film Prize Nominations. We spoke to him about his new feature role.
How did the project come to you?
TSM: Actually I had auditioned for a role in Henrik Martin’s short film in One Day in July, about the terrorist attack in Norway. When I was auditioned, Henrik Martin mentioned he wanted to do an erotic thriller. He said: ‘you’re young and talented do you want to do this?’ I said: ‘Sure, I’ve dreamt of doing something like that for a while! He asked me to meet Andrea [Bræin Hovig in a café ] and we clicked immediately. He has written the main part with her in mind as she is so talented, and he thought about me for the role of the student'.
It’s another challenging role for you with a controversial topic…
TSM: Yes, there are some sex scenes, but I am totally comfortable with that and I’m really interested in portraying this relationships involving an adult woman and a young boy. Usually it’s the reverse, and strangely enough it’s more acceptable.
How is your working relationship with Henrik Martin Dalhsbakken, and are you enjoying your first acting experience in a feature film?
TSM: The nice thing is that Henrik Martin is a young cool guy and we’re buddies now. As we’re very comfortable together, he is very honest with me. With Andrea, it was a bit intimidating as she’s an experienced actor. I’m learning a lot from her.
How do you see your career now that it has rocketed with Skam?
TSM: My grandfather on my father’s side was an actor, but I had never thought of acting before. I did it because I was bored with playing soccer. I needed to do something fun. Then I attended a musicals course I fell in love with acting I went to an open audition for Skam with 1,200 guys in Oslo. When I was selected, I felt: ‘OK, this is a sign. Maybe I should continue!
What’s next?
TSM: Next for me is a part in the musical Grease in Oslo in January, but I’d love to improve my English and perhaps do an acting school in London. If it doesn’t happen, I’m still so happy to be in Oslo.
