The 6x40’ series starring Morten Hee Andersen (Ride Upon the Storm) and Molly Blixt Egeling (A Second Chance) is a hospital show set in Denmark’s 1950s.
The creative team behind the series with the working title of Nursing School (Sygeplejeskolen) consists of The Reunion’s co-writers Claudia Boderke and Lars Mering, director Roni Ezra (Below the Surface) and SF Studios’ producer Senia Dremstrup (Norskov).
The show chronicles the early intake and training of male nurses in post-war Denmark, at a time when the country was seriously lacking nurses. Andersen and Egeling play two young nurse students, trying to adapt to the strict and outdated nursing education, and having to face the hospital’s authoritarian surgeon Bent (Jens Jørn Spottag of The Legacy) and head nurse Ruth (Anette Støvelbæk of Italian for Beginners).
"By telling the story of the training of the first male nurses, we tackle the very timely topic of gender equality. This gives the series a contemporary feel and new depth," said Dremstrup.
TV2 Charlie’s channel director Sune Roland noted that Nursing School follows up on the channel’s previous retro series Something’s Rockin’ (sold by Studiocanal) that was a big success for TV2 Charlie. He said: “It means a lot for us to be able to give audiences a Danish quality series about a time that many people remember and can reflect upon.”
The series is set to premiere on TV2 Charlie in the fall 2018.
