The English-language satire set in the fashion world is scheduled to start filming in 2020 with a delivery in 2021.

The Coproduction Office has been confirmed as sales agent.

The Palme d’or winning director Ruben Östlund describes his project as an "existential candy-bag, stimulating, provocative and entertaining. As usual we’ve set the bar high, and are currently planning the wildest scene ever in film history. On a luxury yacht, in a storm, passengers are struggling with sea sickness and table etiquette during a captain’s dinner. A really nasty dish will be served,” said the Swedish director.

Östlund’s producer Erik Hemmendorff of Plattform Produktion said: “With The Square and Force Majeure, Ruben has become one of the world’s most sought-after directors. We have a unique possibility to portray something pertinent of our time, something that creates desire and energy. The collaboration with SF Studios feels right and necessary. As Ruben’s projects have grown in size, there is a need to have a distributor with muscle.”

Östlund’s previous film, the multi-awarded art satire The Square, was handled by TriArt in Sweden and Scanbox in the rest of the Nordics, with a sub-licence to Arthaus in Norway, Finnkino in Finland, Bioparadís in Iceland.

SF Studios handled his earlier works: Involuntary (2008) and Play (2011).

The company's Head of Nordic Acquisitions, Yaba Holst said she is ‘proud and excited’ to welcome Ruben Östlund back to SF Studios. “Once a rising talent, he is now a giant of the North,” she commented.

Triangle of Sadness is set to have an A-list international cast, with a budget of around €10 million.

The film is produced by Plattform Produktion, in co-production with Film i Väst, SVT, Coproduction Office Aps, Arte France and Arte/ZDF, with support from the Swedish Film Institute.
