Danish director and producer Mikala Krogh will take up the role of editor-in-chief at DR Nyheder’s divisions DR Dokumentar and P1 Dokumentar, starting February 1.

Krogh will report to Thomas Falbe, editor-in-chief of DR Nyheder.

The veteran documentary expert will move to DR from the company Danish Documentary that she co-founded in 2008.

A former graduate from the National Film School of Denmark, Krogh started her career as studio host and producer at DR Radio, before turning to filmmaking. She has worked on several acclaimed documentaries such as A Normal Life, audience-award winner at CPH:DOX 2014, The Newsroom- off the Record, Robert nominee Best Documentary 2015, and most recently, the docu true crime series Scandinavia Star, double award-winner at the 2020 Norwegian Gullruten TV Awards.

At DR Nyheder, she will oversee a staff of 20 people across the independent editorial offices of DR Dokumentar and P1 Dokumentar, and contribute to strengthening their brands, as well as increasing the documentary genre’s impact on DR’s digital platforms.

Commenting on Krogh’s appointment, Falbe underlined her excellent track record in Danish documentary filmmaking, and her recent achievement on Scandinavian Star which “has helped to move both journalism and communication to new heights.”

Krogh added: “DR Dokumentar has always been a strong brand both as a TV and podcast, but in a large media landscape with endless offers and increased competition for audience interest, it is important to strengthen and develop DR Dokumentar's content and form, and place it firmly in the Danes' consciousness.”

“Good storytelling and journalistic revelations are of course a prerequisite, but the execution and the narrative grips are just as important,” she noted. Looking ahead, she said her priorities will be “to expand DR Dokumentar’s dramaturgical and visual ambitions”, and “to make major Nordic and international collaborations with other public service media houses.”

According to Krogh, her former colleagues at Danish Documentary-filmmakers Eva Mulvad (Enemies of Happiness, The Good Life) and Pernille Rose Grønkjær (The Monastery, Hunting for Hedonia), co-owners of the company, will continue to run it and have a handful of films and series in production.
