TV2 Charlie’s current Danish hit series based on an original idea by Adam Price will be broadcast in the rest of the Nordics.

The 10-part series produced by SAM Productions for TV2 Charlie, in co-production with Sweden’s TV4 has been acquired for Norway and Iceland and is in negotiations for Finland, according to TV2 Danmark.

The show which features pirate radio station Radio Mercur that broke the state radio monopole in Denmark in 1958-62 has garnered 456,000 average viewers on TV2 Charlie since March, making it the subscription channel’s 11th most popular programme in its 13-year history. The closing episode was shown last Sunday.

Something’s Rocking is sold internationally by Studiocanal.

Several other Danish dramas commissioned by TV2 have crossed borders. The first three seasons of the period drama Badehotellet (Seaside Resort) produced by SF Studios were sold to Norway, Sweden, Finland and Greenland and are in negotiations in territories including the US and Germany, via Nordic World. TV4 in Sweden has aired successfully season 4 on its Tuesday prime time slot and pre-bought season 5, one year ahead of its premiere on Danish television. “A series of five seasons where viewers and users can follow the characters for a long time, is more attractive to foreign TV stations" said Mette Vorm, Senior Editor at TV 2 External Production & Rights Management.

Meanwhile SF Studios crime show Norskov which was sold by DR Sales to France (ARTE), Benelux (Lumiere), the UK (C4/Walter Presents) among others, is returning in the fall on TV2 Danmark for another six episodes.

Katrine Vogelsang, TV2 Head of Drama said: “The interest from foreign buyers in TV2’s drama output has increased over the years and our collaboration with international TV stations and media partners are key to our ambitions to produce and show more Danish TV drama to our domestic viewers and users.”

According to TV2 Danmark, 2017 is the biggest year for the broadcasting group in terms of local drama programming, with Grethe, Badehotellet, the ZULU series SHIT Happens, the mini-series The Day Will Come, Norskov season 2, the Christmas calendar series Tinka juleeventyr and TV2 Charlie’s Something’s Rockin’
