Iceland’s top director is attending the prestigious platform in Cannes with his feature project Echo.
The project is described as ‘a film where reality will be captured, initiated and staged. The timeline is the advent season of December 2018 to New Year’s Day 2019. An echo from postmodern society, a contemporary mirror.”
Rúnarsson’s third feature after the award-winning Volcano and Sparrows, will be produced by Live Hide and Birgitte Hald of Denmark’s Nimbus Film, with Iceland’s Lilja Ósk Snorradóttir and Rúnarsson. Echo was first pitched at the French resort Les Arcs Co-Production Village in December.
A total of 15 emerging and established directors with promising projects have been invited for the 14th Cinéfondation Atelier in Cannes (May 10-16). Last year Denmark’s emerging talent Marie Grahtø took part in the Cannes Film Festival’s talent support scheme, with her debut feature Teenage Jesus.
The 71st Cannes Film Festival will run May 8-19, 2018. Australian actress Cate Blanchett is President of the Jury.
