The Square by Ruben Östlund and Borg by Janus Metz are two of the most high-profile projects in post-production that will be pitched at Göteborg’s annual Nordic market and networking place. Both films have been pre-sold to a handful of territories by their respective sales agents The Co-production Office and SF Studios International. 


Another six out of 18 works in progress have sales agent attached. “We try to select the best projects, including many still looking for world representation, to make it worthwhile for the 25 sales companies in attendance,” said Head of Industry Cia Edström.

Trust Nordisk is representing three projects:

  • Darling by Birgitte Stærmose (Norskov, Room 304) is a drama set in the world of the Danish Royal Ballet starring Danica Curcic, Gustav Skarsgård and Ullrich Thomsen.
  • The Eternal Road by A J Annila (Jade Warrior, Sauna) stars Tommi Korpela and Sidse Babett Knudsen. It’s the epic story of one man’s struggle to survive is set in the 1930s Soviet Union.
  • The Ash Lad by Mikkel Brænne Sandemose (Ragnarok) is a fantasy/adventure film about a poor farmer’s son who embarks on a quest to save a princess.

LevelK has two projects: 

  • A Horrible Woman by Danish director/actor Christian Tafdrup (Parents) is the portrait of a dominating woman. 
  • The Outlaws by Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken (The Cave), set in the 1920s Norway is about two drifters chased by the police after a failed train robbery. 

Beta Cinema is representing The Unknown Soldier by Aku Louhimies (Naked Harbour), an epic WW2 drama based on the international best-selling novel by Väinö Linna.

  • All In, a drama by Christian Dyerkjær produced by Fago Film, Denmark 
  • The Charmer, a psychological drama by award-winning newcomer Milad Alami, produced by Good Company Films, Denmark 
  • The Guilty, a first feature by Nordic Talents winner Gustav Möller starring Jacob Cedergren (Nordisk Film, Denmark) 
  • Miami, a road trip about two sisters by Nordic Council Film Prize nominee Zaida Bergroth (The Good Son) produced by Helsinki Filmi, Finland 
  • Alma by Kristin Jóhannesdóttir (As in Heaven), a thriller starring Emmanuelle Riva, Kristbjörg Kjeld and Snæfriður Ingvarsdóttir, produced by Pegasus Pictures, Iceland
  • The Swan, a coming of age film by newcomer Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir, produced by Vintage Pictures, Iceland 
  • Lake over Fire, the anticipated debut feature of award-winning Jørn Utkilen (Asylum), produced by Ape & Bjørn, Norway 
  • Jimmie by award-winning Jesper Ganslandt (Falkenberg Farewell), produced by Fasad, as part of Moving Sweden. The story of a man fleeing Sweden that has turned into a dictatorship, seen through the eyes of his 4 year-old son. 
  • Becker-The King of Tingsryd, debut feature by Martin Larsson produced by Anagram Film & TV, Sweden 
  • The Real Estate, a hybrid film by Måns Månsson (The Yard) and Axel Petersén (Avalon) that was selected at Les Arcs’ works in progress, produced by Flybridge, Sweden. 

Seventeen recent Nordic films will screen at Nordic Film Market, including Tom of Finland by Dome Karukoski and Handle with Care by Arild Andresen, both competing for Göteborg’s Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film.

Edström stresses three Swedish films by new promising directors still looking for sales agents:

  • Måste Gitt by Ivica Zubak, selected for Rotterdam’s Big Screen competition slot, 
  • The Ex-Wife by Katka Wik and Beyond Dreams by Rojda Sekersöz. 
  • Another six titles will be introduced at the Nordic Film Lab Discovery, including Jessica by Ninja Thyrberg produced by Sweden’s Plattform Production.

More than 300 international delegates are expected at the Göteborg Film Festival’s industry sidebar, including a record number of buyers (82), also attracted by Nordic Film Market’s TV Drama Vision.
