The backstage dramas, courtships and power games behind the election of the first permanent president of the European Council will be unveiled tonight to Danish audiences with the TV premiere on DR2 of Christoffer Guldbrandsen's (photo) documentary film The President. Shot over nearly two years, the film includes dozens of interviews of EU civil servants and former political leaders such as German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, French president Valery Giscard d'Estaing, German foreign minister Joschka Fischer and the man who became president in 2009, the former Belgian Prime Minister Herman van Rompuy. The 52 minute documentary film produced by Ane Mandrup Pedersen (Guldbrandsen Film) for DR, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond will be broadcast in over 12 other countries such as Norway (NRK), Sweden (SVT), Finland (YLE), Ireland (RTE), Holland (VPRO).
