The entrepreneurial producer is behind more than 20 films and TV series, ranging from the comedy hits Take the Trash, the franchise films All for One, historical drama In Love & War, documentary Armadillo and TV series Heartless.

The 44-year old Fridthjof who was born in Aarhus, will run Filmby Aarhus which hosts more than 80 audio-visual companies and supports filmmaking in the region via the West Danish Film Fund. “It has long been a dream to return to Aarhus and contribute to the dynamic film environment,” said the producer. Filmby Aarhus is very strong with the new Filmby3 building and increased funding from the West Danish Film Fund, which has become a central player in the production of quality films, documentaries and TV series from all over the country."

The West Danish Film Fund received a financial boost from the Danish government as part of the 2019-2023 Danish Film Agreement, with annual subsidies now worth €3.2 million.

Recent Danish productions supported by the Fund include Niels Arden Oplev’s Daniel, Bille August’s series A Fortunate Man and Fridthjof’s own upcoming film The Exception by Jesper W. Nielsen. The film supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond will be released April 30, 2020 via SF Studios. The thriller boasts a strong female cast including Sidse Babett Knudsen, Danica Curcic, Amanda Collins and Lene Maria Christensen.

Meanwhile Fridthjof Film has announced its new management team consisting of creative director Stephanie Wiese and managing director Toke Rude Trangbæk, who has been co-owner of Fridthjof’s Postyr Postproduction service for the last 15 years. The latter said he looks forward to ‘further developing Fridthjof Film’s success in making quality films and TV series for the general Danish audience with the current employees and partners.” Wiese added that next to mainstream Danish films, her goal is to “take some chances and develop new talent.”

Upcoming projects include:

  • Under stjernerne (‘Under the Stars’), the third feature by Mehdi Avaz (Collision, While We Live). 
  • the animated TV series Lotte & Totte based on the books by Swedish author Gunilla Wolde. The series co-produced by A Film Production is written by Mia Hagner Fridthjof who will co-direct with the experienced Jørgen Lerdam. 
  • the children’s film Villads fra Vallby based on the best-selling books by Anne Sofie Hammer and Dina Gellert. The project to be directed by Christian Grønvall (Tinka Christmas Adventure) has received development support from the Danish Film Institute, SF Studios and DR.
