The Swedish film directed by Janus Metz won the BNL People’s Choice Award at the Rome Film Festival that closed on Sunday.

The film was among 36 films in the official selection, which included as well the Taviani brothers’ Rainbow: A Private Affair, Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, Sally Potter’s The Party and the Norwegian thriller Valley of Shadows by Jonas Matzow Guldbrandsen.

The festival’s 12th edition welcomed nearly 40,000 visitors, up 13% on the previous year. Borg vs McEnroe was awarded by the viewers who cast their vote via the official app romeFilmFest and on the festival’s website.

The film produced by SF Studios with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond, opens in Italy on Thursday via Lucky Red and lands on French screens tomorrow, courtesy of Pretty Pictures.
