The 8x52’ premium drama will be pitched on December 3rd, as part of Content London-Drama Summit.
The Danish action thriller produced by Frontier Film for NENT Group’s Nordic streamer Viaplay will be shot mostly in the English-language.
Ice will be the first major international TV drama for production house Frontier Film and writer/director Martin Miehe-Renard, behind several Danish family films and TV series. Co-writers are Hans Jakob Helms and Ben Horowitz.
The story is set in Ilulissat, Greenland. When an old cold-war veteran is wrongly accused of his friend’s mysterious murder, he launches an investigation together with his son – a young ice-core scientist - to clear his name. However, the group quickly discovers that cynical powers are at work. "Unlike the typical Nordic noir, Ice is an action-driven drama, dealing with timely political issues such as global power struggle in Greenland," said REinvent Studios’ director of marketing and sales Helene Aurø who will start pitching the project to global players in London, alongside Miehe-Renard and producer Thorkil Lodahl.
Ice is REInvent Studios’s second series set in the Kingdom of Denmark’s far-flung territories, with the Faroe Island’s first TV drama Trom.
In a separate announcement, the company headed by Rikke Ennis, said German group Square One has boarded the premium crime drama series The Oxen as co-producer. The multi-season drama project is written by the Emmy-award winning duo Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe (Modus, The Eagle) based on Jens Henrik Jensen’s book trilogy. The Oxen series is produced by SF Studios Denmark’s Senia Dremstrup for TV2 Denmark.
