REinvent sells SEX to Finland, adds youth series to slate

Exclusive: The global distributor has sold the Danish series SEX to Yle and picked up another three original Danish youth short form series.

Hot on the heels of its international premiere at the Berlinale Series last February, the web series Sex (6x15’) produced by Profile Pictures for TV2 Denmark, has received strong responses from world streamers and broadcasters according to REinvent International Sales’ director of sales and marketing Helene Aurø.

Besides a fresh deal with Finnish pubcaster Yle, Aurø told nordicfilmandtvnews.com that she will soon announce a deal with a major German broadcaster and has offers from several other countries.

The earnest portrait of Catherine (20), her sexual difficulties with her boyfriend and attraction to a female colleague premiered on TV2 Denmark February 7, and collected five star reviews in the Danish newspaper Politiken and cultural publication Soundvenue.

“Short formats such as Sex tackle relevant contemporary topics that youngsters can easily identify with,” says Aurø.

Three new Danish series, all dealing with relationships, love and desire have been added to REinvent’ s spring catalogue.

  • The 9x10/15’ series Pulse (Puls) produced by Toolbox (Daniel) for TV2 Play, was selected for Series Mania’s Short Form competition. Follow the Money’s Albert Rudbeck Lindhard plays Bastian (16), who is the centre of a 4 boys and 3 girls friendship. The boys play in the local basketball team where Bastian’s best friend Samir (Amer Bosnjak) is the star and the girls’ heartthrob.

When the envious leader Erik discovers that Samir has a secret, the group’s friendships are put to the test and new secrets emerge.
The series co-created by Mette Føns and Tomas Lagermand Lundme, will premiere on TV2 ‘s streamer later this year. A second season has been confirmed.

The two other short forms I Hate Love (Enten/Eller) and upcoming Cold Hawaii have been commissioned by Xee, joint Danish TV channel and streaming service launched early 2019 by YouSee and Fox.

“Xee is an aggressive new player in Denmark that has had great success with local content targeting the 20-40 age group, and we are certain that international players will also pick up on their engaging young-oriented series,” added Aurø.

  • I Hate Love (8x25’) is the first TV series created and written by Kamikaze Film CPH’s Christian Vangsgaard and Malthe Koch (Perfect Places), in collaboration with up-and-coming writer/director Martin Winther.

Two young strangers wake up together, after an amazing one-night stand. But Maja is a left-wing socialist and William an ultra liberal capitalist. They hate everything they stand for, but still can’t forget that night of passion. In the title roles are Nikolaj Dencker Schmidt (Cursed, Finding Home) and Emilie Kruse (Dicte, You& Me Forever).  The series premiered on Xee February 23.

  • Cold Hawaii (8x25’) is co-created by actor/Oscar nominated director Aske Bang (Silent Nights) and actor Allan Hyde (True Blood, Below the Surface) for Michael Wulff and Anders Morgenthaler’s New Creations. Both Bang and Hyde star in the show, alongside Marie Tourell Søderberg (Ride Upon the Storm, Itsi Bitsi) and Charlotte Fich (The Bridge).

The series follows two couples who decide to get away from the stress and noise of Copenhagen to spend a few months together in the surf spot of Thy, on the Danish west coast. Things get out of control when the boys get the idea of switching partners. It’s a story about commitment, honesty and friendship. The series is set to premiere on Xee later this year.

REInvent International Sales’ spring line-up also comprises several high-end long running series such as the completed Finnish show Peacekeeper (Yle), the Swedish medical drama First Responders (Viaplay), currently in post-production, and Swedish/Danish crime drama in development Snow Angels (SVT/DR).

On the feature film side, REinvent represents SF Studios’ strong slate such as Ole Christian Madsen’s The Day We Died, Christina Rosendahl’s The Good Traitor and family animated film Pelle No-Tail.

Commenting on the current Covid-19 crisis and impact on REinvent’s activities, Aurø said: “The first 1-2 weeks of lock down were slow as people had to settle into home working and broadcasters had to readjust their programming schedules. But then buyers were active again, looking for completed programmes. Having SF Studios’ large library on top of our quality TV series is a huge asset,” noted the senior sales and marketing executive.
