CPH:PIX (April 15-25) the largest film festival in the Danish capital kick started on Wednesday evening with the presentation of the Nordisk Film Award to Danish newcomers Tobias Lindholm and Michael Noer, co-directors of R.

The prison drama will screen at CPH:PIX in the festival's PIX Specials strand on April 17, a few days ahead of its national release through Nordisk Film Distribution. The Scandinavian group recently changed the focus of its annual film prize on new Danish talents and agreed to collaborate with CPH:PIX, who also champions promising filmmakers. The festival's own major award, the New Talent Grand PIX has a hefty cash prize - €50,000 - precisely to help first time filmmakers get on with their career, according to festival director Jacob Neiiendam.

Thirteen debut directors are competing for this year's award, including Norway's The Angel by Margreth Olin, Finland's Last Cowboy Standing by Zaida Bergroth (both supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond), Denmark's Hold me Tight by Kaspar Munk, and the US/Swedish The Anchorage by Anders Edström and C.W.Winter.

A total of 180 films are scattered across the festival's 25 sections dedicated to German, French, Mexican cinema, European Voices (such as Dagur Kári with The Good Heart, Gunnar Vikene with Vegas), and New Danish Talent among others. To entice Danish distributors to pick up a festival title, a DKK 100,000 (€13,000) cash prize is attached to one of ten films competing for the ‘Politiken' Audience Award.
