Lundberg who has been working the past five years as counsellor for cultural affairs at the Swedish Embassy in London will take up her new role in March 2024.
The former journalist is well known by the international film community, having served as head of international at the Swedish Film Institute between 2007 and 2018.
She was appointed by the Board of the Göteborg Film Festival following 'an extensive recruitment process.'
"There are few individuals in Sweden with such vast experience in international film festivals and a deep connection to the Nordic film world. I look forward to working together with Lundberg to further develop the Göteborg Film Festival as the hub of Nordic film culture," said the festival’s CEO, Mirja Wester.
Lundberg herself said after having attended “hundreds of film festivals”, she is looking forward to help create one. “Sometimes, I wish that significant cinematic experiences could be prescribed by doctors. In a time when more and more people in power view art as an instrumental tool, it is more important than ever to elevate film as an independent artistic expression,” she stated.
Holmberg announced in June that he would step down from the role of artistic director of Scandinavia’s biggest festival, after Göteborg’s 2024 edition set to unfold January 26-February 4.
The 47th Göteborg Film Festival’s main focal point will be on ‘Another Intelligence’ and the way AI technology will change the world of cinema.
Accreditations are now open for the festival which welcomes each year thousands of industry delegates.
For the first time, the parallel industry events TV Drama Vision (January 30-31) and Nordic Film Market (January 31- February 2) will be held at the Clarion Hotel Draken in Göteborg.
