Nordisk Film’s comedy with a stellar Danish ensemble cast opened Thursday in Denmark on 155 screens.
LevelK has added to her American Film Market slate actress Paprika Steen’s fourth feature film as a director, penned by Jakob Weiss with whom she collaborated on her acclaimed 2018 film That Time of Year, six times Robert nominated.
Fathers & Mothers (Fædre og mødre) is a modern comedy about the married couple Piv (Katrine Greis-Rosenthal) and Ulrik (Jacob Lohmann), who fight to be part of the parents’ group in their daughter’s new class. They experience parenthood to an excessive degree, and must even take part in a popular camping trip. The question is how far are the willing to go for their child?
The film’s star-studded cast also includes Amanda Collin (The Bastard, A Horrible Woman), Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Riders of Justice), Maria Rossing (Carmen Curlers), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lars Brygmann (Riders of Justice), Mikael Birkkjær (Borgen) and Rasmus Bjerg (Wild Men).
Fathers & Mothers was produced by Tomas Radoor for Nordisk Film Production Denmark, with support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
LevelK’s slate of Nordic and international titles offered at Los Angeles’ trade show the American Film Market (November 1-6) includes Shame on Dry Land by Swedish director Axel Petersén (The Real Estate), starring Joel Spira and Christopher Wagelin, and the Norwegian family film Dancing Queen by Aurora Gossé, both scheduled for a February 2023 national release.
Other anticipated Nordic films include the comedy The Cake Dynasty by Christian Lollike which world premiered in competition at the Zurich Film Festival in September, Bille August’s The Kiss to be released later in 2023 by Nordisk Film, and the Icelandic genre movie Cold by Erlingur Thoroddsen, currently in production.
