Flimmer, the feature debut of the Oscar-nominated Patrik Eklund, (photo) and Somewhere Else by Kjell-Åke Andersson are among five new films that received a total of SEK19.2 million in production support from the Swedish Film Institute (SFI). Both projects are co-produced with Norway.

Eklund is one of Sweden's most promising filmmakers. Nominated last year at the Academy Awards with his short film Instead of Abracadabra, Eklund has a chance to run again at the upcoming Oscars competition with his live action short Seeds of the Fall, shortlisted with nine other candidates. His feature film debut Flimmer is a comedy about a power cut in a small village that triggers a whole chain of events. In the lead roles are Kjell Bergqvist, Allan Svensson, Olle Sarri and Jacob Nordenson. The project is produced by Bob Film Sweden in co-production with Filmpool Nord, Nordisk Film Production Sweden, Nordisk Film Post Production, SVT and Norway's 4½. Filming has started in Luleå. Delivery date is set for spring 2012.

Somewhere Else (Någon annanstans i Sverige)
is adapted for the screen by Hans Gunnarsson from his own eponymous novel. The stellar cast includes Mikael Persbrandt, Helene Bergström, Marie Richardson, and Björn Bengtsson. Filming just ended on the project produced by Peter Kropenin (Tur med vädret) and Anna Björk (Davaj Film), in co-production with Norway's Pomor Film. Survivors, the new documentary film by Magnus Gertten (Long Distance Love) will use unique archive material to depict the thousands of Holocaust survivors who came to Malmö in 1945. The Auto Images production is backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

The other two documentaries granted SFI support are Pojktanten by Ester-Martin Bergsmark (Maggie in Wonderland) produced by Robota Produktion, and Colombianos by Tora Mårtens, produced by Hysteria Film.
