The Deep, Purge, Kon-Tiki, The Hypnotist. Four of the Nordic candidates wearing their national colours at the Oscar's race for Best Foreign Language Film were number one at the domestic charts last weekend as well as Susanne Bier's Love is All You Need. Several other local films including two documentaries based on national heroes (the Swedish film Palme and Finnish Litmanen, The King, featuring the legendary footballer Jari Litmanen) played extremely well on national screens.

Denmark had no less than three local films in the top three places in its local chart. In its fourth weekend, Love is All you Need was still number one for Nordisk Film with cumulated admissions of 477,477. The romantic comedy had by far the highest screen average of 630 admissions and is on course to join This Life (Hvidsten Gruppen) and A Royal Affair in the list of the biggest Danish films of 2012.

Bille August's Marie Krøyer opened at number two for FC/SF, selling almost 50,000 tickets from 109 screens. Tobias Lindholm's A Hijacking kept its third place in its second weekend. Following the film's strong opening the previous weekend, Nordisk Film increased its print run from 88 to 93 and total admissions so far have passed 75,000.

Kaspar Munk's youth film You & Me Forever released by FC/SF was number eight in its 3rd weekend. Cumulated admission figures are 33,638.

All films benefitted from the ‘Store Biografdag' half price tickets promotion on Sunday. So far Danish films have a 29% market share according to the Danish Film Institute.

Iceland's top director Baltasar Kormákur stayed at number one for the second consecutive weekend with his drama The Deep. Total tickets sold so far have reached 23,486. The local comedy Ávaxtakarfan was number five in its fifth weekend with total admissions passing 10,000. Both titles were released by Sena.

In Finland Antti Jokinen's epic drama Purge stayed at number one in its fourth weekend. The Nordisk Film release has sold over 141,781 tickets so far. Mika Kaurismäki's Road North also has strong legs and another 11,844 people watched the film that took the second place at the Top Ten in its sixth weekend. Total tickets sold for FS Film are 204,597.

Arto Koskinen's Litmanen, The King - also released by SF and produced by Mika Kaurismäki's Marianna Films - had a record opening for a documentary film, selling 6,133 tickets from 73 screens. The film was the second highest entry for a Finnish documentary film ever behind Mika Kaurismäki's 2010 film Vesku.

In Norway Kon-Tiki showed no sign of fatigue after six weeks at number one. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg's epic film is now the biggest hit of 2012 in Norway with cumulated admissions of 756,414 for Nordisk Film. The Scandinavian major's much anticipated action-adventure film Escape by Roar Uthaug had an impressive opening at number two, selling over 22,000 tickets from 162 screens.

The third Nordisk Film release, the comedy Tina & Bettina-The Movie was number five after four weekends and total admissions have passed 165,000. Eva Sørhaug's 90 Minutes starring Aksel Hennie attracted another 10,333 Norwegians in its second weekend, pushing total admissions up to 26,361 for Euforia Film. The thriller was number six at the Top Ten.

In Sweden Lasse Hallström's thriller The Hypnotist gave Svensk Filmindustri the leading position on the top chart, selling 66,041 tickets from 198 screens in its first weekend.

Meanwhile the documentary Palme released by Scanbox took the fifth place in its third weekend, and is soon to pass the 100,000 admissions mark.  The unique archive based film capturing Olaf Palme's complex legacy will open in Denmark on October 18 (Camera Film) and in Norway on October 26 (Scanbox).

The second franchise films Hamilton - But not if it Concerns Your Daughter (Walt Disney) and Easy Money Never Fuck Up took respectively the seventh and ninth place at the Top Ten. After a month on national screens Hamilton 2 has sold over 161,461 tickets and Easy Money 2 over 315,000 tickets after seven weeks.
