Vibeke Fürst Haugen has just been appointed at the head of the Norwegian broadcasting corporation, in replacement of Thor Gjermund Eriksen.
Fürst Haugen joined NRK in 1994 and has since gained extensive editorial and strategic management experience.
She comes from the position of Programme Director, National Content Division, covering Sport, Entertainment, Documentary and Society, Culture, P3 and NRK Super. Fürst Haugen had earlier served as Acting Head of Broadcasting when Thor Gjermund Eriksen was on leave in 2020.
“I think this is the country's most exciting media management job. I am passionate about public service broadcasting and am motivated by NRK's mission and high ambitions,” said Fürst Haugen in a statement.
“We will strengthen and develop democracy by delivering world-class content that can bring together and engage everyone who lives in Norway. NRK is teamwork, and I cannot think of anything more rewarding than being able to lead NRK into the future.”
Norway’s Minister of Culture and Gender Equality Anette Trettebergstuen congratulated Fürst Haugen on her new position. “NRK is one of our most important cultural institutions, and the position as head of broadcasting is one of the most important jobs in the Norwegian media industry. From both a media and gender equality perspective, it is very gratifying that NRK gets such a solid and skilled leader. In addition, she will historically be the first woman in this role, said Trettebergstuen to NRK.
