FilmReg is the new organization set up by Norway's regional film centers and film funds to get their voice heard on a national level. The decision to set up this joint organization was taken by the nine Norwegian regional film centers and film funds last Monday, during the Kosmorama Film Festival in Trondheim.

The first Board consists of President Irmelin Nordahl (Vestnorsk Filsenter), Vice-President Svein Andersen (FilmCamp) Treasurer Lars L. Marøv (Filmfondet FUZZ), and Deputy members Inge Tenvik (Film3) and Ola Lund Renolen (Midtnorsk Filmsenter).

"Our idea was to get together to show a united front and to have one voice in our negotiations with the new Norwegian Film Institute (NFI)," explains Marøv. "Our goal is to improve our position on a political level and to strengthen national filmmaking by strengthening regional filmmaking."

"Our first plan of action is to get a representation at the board of the NFI. Nina Refseth, the institute's managing director whom we've met several times, is very positive and said she would encourage regional thinking in all levels of the institute. Secondly, the new rules and regulations for state support to film on all levels will come into effect at the end of June, and we would like the Ministry of Culture to take into consideration our demands when drafting those rules, continued Maløv.

The nine regional film centres and film funds that attended the meeting at Kosmorama include Film3, Lillehammer, FilmCamp, Filmfondet FUZZ, Filmkraft Rogaland, Midnorsk Filmsenter, Midnorsk Filmfond, Nordnorsk Filmsenter, Østnorsk Filmsenter and Vestnorsk Filmsenter.
