The kids series by Valkyrien creators Tordenfilm has been picked up for world distribution by Munich-based Global Screen.
The 13x15’ series produced for NRK Super is created by Gisle Halvorsen and Thomas Seeberg Torjussen (Valkyrien) who also co-wrote the script together with Thomas Moldestad (Escape, Two Buddies and a Bagder). Atle Kundsen (Struggle for Life) and Tonje Voreland are directing.
The show deals with being an outsider in an increasingly conformist society. The main character Lars (11) is a half zombie, or a “living un-living”. In his new hometown, Lars’s kind are rare and frowned upon. But then he finds out that a ninja, a witch, a troll and a changeling are living just next door. Lars is thrilled and starts enjoying life like never before. And there is a chance his half-dead heart might start beating for someone special.
The main roles are played by four children aged 11-13: Helena F. Ødven, Dat Gia Hoang, Hannah Raanes-Holm, Leonard Valestrand Eike and in the two main adult roles are Laila Goody (The Wave) and Ine Marie Wilmann (Happy Happy).
Ulrike Schröder, Acquisition Manager TV at Global Screen said: “Zombielars is a truly unique and fresh series aimed at school kids and we can’t wait to present it to our international buyers. The series tackles the question of how to fit in and shows how we cope with being different – and all this with great sensitivity and sense of humour.”
Tordenfilm producer Anne Bergseng said: “Zombielars is an important series to make right now, with its themes of tolerance and acceptance told from the perspective of kids. Global Screen will be excellent partners in bringing the series to a world wide audience.”
The show currently in post-production is produced in collaboration with SVT, DR, YLE and support from the Norwegian Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Global Screen will introduce the show at MIPTV and will continue sales on the Icelandic show Prisoners (Fangar) directed by Ragnar Bragason.
