Backed by rave reviews, Monster Scripted’s dramedy created by actor Henriette Steenstrup is the most streamed local show ever on Viaplay after its first 24 hours online.
Launched on May 2nd on NENT Group’s streamer Viaplay, the dramedy Pørni has garnered exceptional responses from the local media, such as the trade publication Rushprint that has hailed it as “the best Norwegian series since Skam”.
Reviewers at TV2, NRK P3, Filmfront have given the maximum 6 stars and the leading newspapers Aftenposten, Dagbladet and Adresseavisen 5 out of 6 stars. “Pørni" clicks on all points: It's funny, sore, captivating, brave, smart and very entertaining,” said TV2.no’s reviewer Camilla Laache.
“I am overwhelmed by all the feedback”, said popular comedian and actor Henriette Steenstrup (Beware of Children, Ragnarok, Lilyhammer). “It has been an absolutely wonderful reception and it is a great relief that so many have actually seen Pørni,” said Steenstrup who makes her debut as creator/writer.
In the six-part series, Steenstrup plays Pørni (short for Pernilla) who struggles between her children's needs, the grief over her sister's recent death, a hopeless ex-husband, her job as childcare worker, and her demanding father. The actor who was inspired by her own experience, describes the show as “a drama about the everyday dilemmas you find yourself in when you, to the best of your ability, try to do the right thing for the people you care about-and yourself. In that order!”
Playing next to Steenstrup, are Nils Ole Oftebro (Black Lake, Mammon), Henrik Mestad (Occupied), Ulrikke Døvigen (Wisting, Home Ground), Agnes Kittelsen (Exit, Beforeigners), Jan Gunnar Røise (The Tunnel), Gunnar Eiriksson (Twin), Vivild Falk Berg and Johanna Mørk (Trollhunter).
Gunnar Vikene (Occupied, The Third Eye) serves as conceptual director and Charlotte Blom (Next Summer) as episodic director.
The show was produced by Monster Scripted’s Bård Fjulsrud (Nobel) and Ida Håndlykken Kvernstrøm (Young & Promising).
Asked if a second season will soon follow , Kvernstrøm told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “We have of course noticed all the comments wishing for more Pørni, and while we can't confirm anything right now, we share everyone's love for Henriette Steenstrup's amazing talents as a series creator and actor, and hope to give you some good news regarding our plans for her soon.”
The series is handled by Keshet International which showcased it to global buyers at the last ‘Berlinale Series Market Selects’.
