Five Norwegian and two Swedish titles were nominated among more than 700 entries from broadcasters around the world.
Rose d’Or is the flagship competition of the EBU (the European Broadcasting Union). The 2024 competition was once again arranged in London as a partnership between EBU and C21Media, in connection to the yearly C21 Drama Summit. In the competition’s 63rd edition, awards were delivered in 13 program categories, out of which only one was to an audio program.
The 7-part series Dates in Real Life was awarded in the category Comedy Drama and Sitcom. It tells the story of a young woman who moves between artificial and real-life relationships when looking for love. The series is written and directed by Jakob Rørvik, and produced by Maipo Film’s Synnøve Hørsdal and Petter Onstad Løkke for NRK. When receiving the award in London, Hørsdal said:
“I thank NRK for taking the role of a public broadcaster seriously by commissioning series that give the audience something to think about and to discuss afterwards, and to ensure that we keep up our democrazy”.
Dates in Real Life has previously won international prizes at Prix Europa and Series Mania. As a N12-project, the series is co-financed by all Nordic public broadcasters. It is supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
The other nominated titles commissioned by Nordic broadcasters (category in brackets):
SVT / The Fraudsters (News and Current Affairs)
SVT / Royal Swedish Opera: Mikael Karlsson: Melancolia (Arts)
TV2 / Norway’s Dumbest (Norges dummeste) (Comedy Entertainment)
TV2 / Bloody Game (Competition Reality)
NRK / Superhero Academy (Superheltskolen) (Children and Youth)
NRK / What Happened to Solveig? (Hva skjedde med Solveig) (Comedy Drama and Sitcom)
