Erik Poppe's Norwegian drama Troubled Water (De usynlige) is to be remade in the US by Hollywood producer Basil Iwanyk (Firewall, Clash of the Titans) and Icelandic-born Joni Sighvatsson.

Iwanyk optioned rights on the film over the summer for his company Thunder Road and will keep the title Troubled Water in the new English-language version, according to Scanbox Entertainment, owned by Sighvatsson. The Norwegian film recently won two awards at the US Hamptons International Film Festival (Best Feature Film and Audience Award) and has sold over 74,000 tickets in Norway since September 22. The film produced by Finn Gjerdrum and Stein B. Kvae (Paradox AS) was supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Sales are handled by Bavaria Film International.

Two other Nordic films are being remade in Hollywood by veteran producer Sighvatsson (Palomar Pictures). Now in post-production, Brothers (based on the Danish film by Susanne Bier) is directed by Jim Sheridan with Jake Gyllennhal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman in the lead, and Elling, based on the Norwegian hit by Petter Næss, is currently in development for 20th Century Fox with US filmmaker Jay Roach (Meet the Parents) attached to the project.
