Following the launch of a Swedish division, Cinenord has just hired top Danish producer Anni Faurbye Fernandez to boost their TV drama activities.
Over the past 14 years Cinenord has produced and co-produced 28 feature films – mostly kids fare such as the Casper & Emma franchise, and three TV shows, including Varg Veum. Fernandez who was CEO at Yellow Bird and most recently co-founder of The Good Company Films (Goodco), becomes part-shareholder and partner of Cinenord, alongside Silje Hopland Eik and Alexander Eik.
Fernandez told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “I have had some great years at GoodCo, and I will miss my co-workers there, but it was time for me to move on and realize the ambition of expanding Cinenord, together with Silje Hopland Eik and Alexander Eik. Silje and I have known each other since 2005 and we mutually respect each other as producers. Our mission for the future is to produce TV-series for the Scandinavian and international markets.”
Cinenord and The GoodCo are already co-production partners on the Danish mainstream family fantasy film Wild Witch by Kaspar Munk, set to open in the fall, and on the premium crime show Wisting starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Richie Campbell and Sven Nordin.
The 10x45’ series is co-written by Trygve Allister Diesen (The Third Eye) and Katrine Valen Zeiner (Eyewitness) based on Jørn Lier Horst’s crime novels. The show will premiere on Viaplay early 2019 and later on TV3. German’s ARD Degeto is co-producer and Banijay Rights handle world sales.
Cinenord’s other high-end TV show, set to start filming later this year, is Atlantic Crossing (Alt for Norge) produced for NRK. The 8x60’ WW2 drama created/directed by Alexander Eik, focuses on Norwegian Crown Princess Märtha, who fled from the Nazi occupation to become a key figure in world politics, living in the White House and trying to persuade President Roosevelt to enter the war. Beta Film handles sales.
Last February, Cinenord hired Swedish producer Moa Westeson to lead Cinenord Stockholm, whose primary focus is TV drama series and family entertainment. Westeson works with development editor Cindy Hanson who has whose credit include BBC Drama’s Waking the Dead and Holby City. Cinenord joins other production powerhouses such as Anagram and Miso Film who have set up bases across the Nordics to expand their TV drama businesses.
