The SVT series is vying for Best drama of the year, alongside The Hunt for a Killer, HBO Nordic’s Beartown, Netflix’s Snabba Cash and Viaplay’s Thunder in My Heart.
Produced by Anagram Sweden, Thin Blue Line (Tunna blå linjen) is also scoring high in the acting categories with Oscar Töringe and Per Lasson, both competing for Best Actor in a TV production and Gizem Erdogan for Best Actress.
The realistic TV drama focusing on the daily job of police officers in Malmö was a major success on SVT when it premiered in January and steered national debates. The series’ head-writer Cilla Jackert was nominated for this year’s Nordisk Film & TV Fond-Best Nordic TV Screenplay. A second season has been ordered by SVT.
Netflix’s Snabba Cash produced by SF Studios and HBO Nordic’s Beartown produced by Filmlance International are both competing in three categories.
A smash audience and critical success, Snabba Cash was an international breakthrough show for Evin Ahmad who stars as Leya, a single mum who gets entangled in Stockholm’s criminal world while trying to get her start-up company off the ground. Ahmad is vying for Best Actress, while her co-star Alexander Abdallah who plays gang member Salim, is running for Best Actor. Based on Jens Lapidus’ best-selling novels, the series was penned by Oskar Söderlund and directed by Jesper Ganslandt, both attached to an upcoming second season produced by SF Studios with Strive Studios.
Two of Beartown (Björnstad)’s main actors, rising talent Miriam Ingrid, cast as the young 15-year-old Maya Andersson and Ulf Stenberg who plays her father Peter, trainer of the junior Beartown hockey club, are each competing in acting categories. The limited TV show directed by Peter Grönlund from Fredrik Backman’s best-selling novel, premiered on HBO Nordic October 18, 2020.
Meanwhile the multi-talented singer/actress Amy Deasismont who makes her debut as showrunner on Viaplay’s Thunder in My Heart gets a nod for Best Drama series and Best Actress. “Playing Sigge was both incredibly fun and very challenging,” said Deasismont about her role. It has been very nice to work together with my teammates and the series' directors Anders Hazelius and Sanna Lenken,” she said in a statement.
The eight-part series produced by BR-F premiered on Nent Group’s streaming service May 23, 2021.
