Nutley and Bergström’s Sweetwater Production has just inked a three-year output deal with Nordisk Film, putting an end to more than 20 years of collaboration with SF Studios.
The distribution deal covers Sweetwater’s upcoming films and TV series, both for the Nordic region and internationally.
The Stockholm-based English director Colin Nutley and his partner, Swedish writer/director/actress Helena Bergström, are behind some of Sweden’s top grossing films of the last two decades such as Nutley’s Oscar-nominated Under the Sun, the House of Angels trilogy, Gossip, Heartbreak Hotel, and Bergström’s Holy Mess. Nutley’s TV mini-series Missing was also one of C More/TV4’s biggest local successes of 2017.
Nutley told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “We’ve worked with SF Studios for more than 20 years, since I started making films in Sweden. we’ve had great memories, working with wonderful people. But then out of the blue, we met with Lone Korslund [VP Acquisition and Co-production at Nordisk Film]. She is very open, supportive; we liked Nordisk Film’s commitment and the new energy and possibilities that this deal was offering us.”
Nutley is currently working on a new mini-series for C More/TV4, Bröllop, begravning och dop (lit 'Wedding, funeral and christening'), about two families who come together for the wedding of their kids. Something happens that changes people’s lives. “What fascinates me is the way you come together on these formal family occasions, at the same church, the same reception hall, for a wedding, a christening or a funeral,” says the director. “The series will be funny, emotional and dark, basically about life!” Filming is set to start in July.
Bergström is currently rehearsing the play A Doll’s House, part 2 set to premiere in September at Stockholm’s Kulturhuset/Stadsteatern and preparing a new feature film as a director.
