The Norwegian director and the Swedish actress will be among eight film personalities responsible for judging the 21 films competing for the coveted Palme d’or.
Both Nordic talents were already under the spotlights at last year’s film festival-Rapace as lead actress in the Icelandic supernatural drama Lamb by Valdimar Jóhansson, showcased at Un Certain Regard, and Trier in the official competition with The Worst Person in the World for which Renate Reinsve won a Best Actress Award.
Trier is in fact a true Cannes regular, having presented his films Oslo, August 31st at Un Certain Regard in 2011 and Louder than Bombs in the official competition in 2015. He also sat on the jury of the Cinéfondation in 2014 and was President of the Jury at the 2018 Critics Week.
The other members of the Cannes 2022 jury presided over by French actor Vincent Lindon, include British actress/writer/director/producer Rebecca Hall, Indian actress Deepika Padukone, Italian actress/director Jasmine Trinca, Iranian writer/director/producer Asghar Farhadi, writer/director/actor/producer Ladj Ly,and US writer/director Jeff Nichols.
Among the 21 films vying for the Palme d’or are the Swedish entries Triangle of Sadness by Ruben Öslund and Boy from Heaven by Tarik Saleh, as well as Denmark’s Holy Spider by Ali Abbasi.
The festival will kickstart Mai 17 with the screening of Michel Hazanavicious’ Final Cut.
