“The goal is to cross utilise local and regional resources - both creative and financial - to accelerate the development and production of high-concept Scandinavian projects for the international market, said Patrick Nebout, who set up Dramacorp in 2016, with the backing of Germany’s Beta Film.

The French/Swedish TV executive and Beta’s Jan Mojto are therefore in advanced negotiations with ‘like-minded producers’ to set up a pan-Nordic network. “Co-development and co-production is the future, and it makes it easier if you’re part of a group like Beta Film, which can offer extensive connections with leading broadcasters across Europe and beyond,” adds Nebout.

Meanwhile Dramacorp has just appointed Mia Sohlman as Head of Digital Series. Her role will be to drive the development and production of cost-efficient short format drama (up to half-hours) and smart genre series. Taking SKAM and The End of the Fucking World as prime examples, Nebout says: “We believe shorter formats are just at the beginning of their success-story."

Dramacorp’s first project within this format is the horror show Crypted (two seasons of 10x22’), directed and co-created by Daniel di Grado (Farang, Hidden) with comic book novelist Sylvain Runberg. The story is set in a high school in a small northern European town. Tone-wise, it’s a cross between SKAM, the US genre film It Follows and Rosemary’s Baby. Nebout believes the show is a perfect fit for SVOD platforms. Production is scheduled to start in 2019.

Next to the fast-expanding young adult market, Dramacorp’s primary focus remains high-concept, international and local dramas with a global potential, such as Agent Hamilton which starts filming in May, between Stockholm, Estonia and Israel. The 10-part series produced through a collaboration with Pampas Studios, will premiere on C More in 2019 and later on TV4 Sweden and ZDF in Germany. Development has already started on season 2.

Dramacorp-Pampas Studios are also in early stage development of a massive North-European and German epic drama to be announced shortly. Another high-end long running series, The Head, coproduced by Dramacorp with Spain’s Mediapro, is set to start production early 2019.

The multi-layered whodunit/ survival thriller, tells of 10 scientists, trapped in a laboratory at the South Pole, who realise one of them is a killer. The showrunners are Spanish brothers Alex and David Pastor (Carriers/The Last Days). The Head will be shot mostly in English language, in a very organic way, and will be filmed between Spain and Iceland. Major US, French and Scandinavian broadcasters are circling the project.
