Three Nordic documentaries supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond have received accolades by major international festivals. Denmark's ½ Revolution won the Golden Award at Al Jazeera Documentary Film Festival in Doha, Ballroom Dancer (pictured) a Special Mention at New York's Tribeca Film Festival, while Finland's The Punk Syndrome was awarded last weekend the Special Prize Swiss Post for the Most Innovative Feature Film at Visions du Réel in Nyons.

Commenting on the awards, Karolina Lidin, documentary consultant at Nordisk Film & TV Fond said: "What a wonderful harvest of prizes for Nordic documentaries! This is truly worth celebrating, especially since these three films show such amazing scope and variety of storytelling, style and subject matter. These are all films that engage, entertain and leave us profoundly moved - in both the literal and metaphorical sense of the word. Congratulations to the filmmakers!"

The Punk Syndrome by Finnish directors Jukka Kärkkäinen and JP Passi, which features a group of four mentally disabled guys who form a punk rock band, was described by the jury of Visions du Réel as a film ‘full of warmth and humour'. The film produced by Finland's Muka Filmi is opening today on Finnish screens via Buena Vista International.

The Punk Syndrome is also screening this week at Toronto's Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival along with Christian Bonke and Andreas Koefoed's Ballroom Dancer produced by Danish Documentary. Autlook Film Sales will represent the films in Cannes.

Almost twenty Nordic documentaries are screening at Toronto's Hot Docs that closes on Sunday.
